Anti Candida Diet – Treating Candidiasis

Anti Candida Diet

An anti candida diet is one of the first things that anyone, including the physician, would suggest to a person suffering from candidiasis.

In order to treat candidiasis successfully, the foremost important step is to stop feeding this yeast the foods it survives on. Following an anti candida diet diligently is absolutely necessary, along with  having to make major changes in your eating habits – and also have the willpower to stick with it. Your natural health depends on a balanced approach to your diet.

Following is a very effective way to treat candidiasis:

  • An anti candida diet, which is especially designed to starve the candida micro organism.
  • Including probiotics as part of your overall strategy
  • A natural herbal remedy that helps in killing off the candida.

Why An Anti Candida Diet?

An anti candida diet is a start in the right direction when tackling candidiasis. Without strict adherence to a anti candida diet, no drug or treatment will be successful, not for long anyway.

Avoid Sugars

This includes sweeteners, fructose, molasses, honey, fruit-juice etc and all other sugar-sweet snacks and foods , including candies, cakes, desserts, cookies, sodas, ice cream and fruit-juice. Unless they are prepared with sugar-substitutes like aspartame or saccharine or stevia extract.

Cutting out sugars for atleast 3 days will break their ‘spell’ and you will be able to resist them more easily.

One to two servings of whole-fruits is okay per day. But the very sweetest kinds of fruits like grapes, mango and watermelon should also be avoided.

Avoid White-Starch Foods

Sorry, but this includes cakes, white bread, white pasta, cookies, potatoes without skin, white rice, and all refined flours, etc. Whole-grain flour, potatoes with their peels, whole-grain pasta, whole-grain brown or wild rice can be used in moderation.

Products that contain other yeasts can also be included in the diet as they will help to contain the  candida yeast. Dairy products need not be avoided, unless you are allergic to them.

Partake Of The Good Oils

Increasing the intake of essential oils, especially omega-3 fatty oils, is very useful in treating candidiasis. Essential oils are abundant in fish oils and oily fish like mackerel, sardines-in-oil, salmon, tuna-in-oil, evening primrose oil, flax-seed and borage.

Some of these essential oils can be used as salad-dressing, instead of canola or olive oil, and on baked potatoes or whole-grain breads, instead of butter.

Include A Balanced Approach To Your Diet

Foods to include in your weekly intake of food:

  • Meats: Meat is good to eat. Pork, lamb, beef and poultry are some examples of good food to eat. These do not cause more yeast to grow in the body and help to moderate the infection. But make sure that the meat is organic, so that there are no chemicals to make the condition worse. So no cured meats like ham or salami.
  • Grains: Oats are high in fiber content and should be eaten. They suppress yeast growth in the body.
  • Legumes:  Nuts, beans and peas are also good to control Candida. They prevent yeast from growing and multiplying.
  • Green Leafy Vegetables: Lettuce, cabbage and other green leafy vegetables are very good for you. They are high in fiber and essential enzymes, helping the body to maintain the correct levels of yeast.
  • Sea Food: All seafood’s are good to eat and are packed with dense nutritional value. Because of the density (in nutrients) they satisfy your hunger better than empty calories from snack food.
  • Yogurt: Yogurt contains good bacteria that the body needs. It will also help to decrease the amount of yeast in the body. Just make sure to eat only the unflavored and unsweetened varieties.
  • Spices: Garlic is rich in anti-fungal properties. It is used as a home remedy for many yeast infections. Ginger also has anti-fungal properties.

Avoiding antibiotics and other cortisone-type prescriptions is also recommended, while treating candidiasis as these drugs kill off good and bad bacteria indiscriminately.

The above anti candida diet may seem overwhelming to you, but if you are suffering from candida, it is better to have a temporary restricted diet than living the rest of your life with candida. The anti candida diet may starve the microorganism and help to control it, so that other treatments can work successfully.

The Atkins diet is very similar to the anti candida diet,  so many Atkins recipes may be used as well. By experimenting with new recipes, you will not get bored, and the variety may make it easier and more enjoyable for you to follow the  diet.

Other treatments that go hand in hand with the anti candida diet for successful treatment of Candidiasis includes:

  • An anti fungal treatment using natural ingredients like garlic, caprylic oil, vitamin B3, niacin, tea tree oil, selenium and vitamin C or Grapefruit seed extract, fish oil like halibut oil etc may be very helpful in treating candida.
  • Increasing healthy bacteria in the body like, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus and  Streptococcus Bifidobacterium  and thermopiles, creates an acid environment where the candida cannot flourish
  • Bowel cleansing using psyllium and linseed helps to flush  the bowel of harmful bacteria and fungii, allowing the healthy bacteria to thrive – it’s all about balance.

Unlike other medical treatments for Candida, there are no harmful side effects to following this anti candida diet. Even if you do not suffer from yeast infection, following an anti candida diet similar to this will result in increased health benefits.
